So I haven’t made a complete costume in quite a while. I used to be really into it, and I still love costuming, but real life totally got in the way. We went from dating and living in an apartment to getting married and now owning a house. Buying the fabric for the next Stargate costume that I want to do always seemed to fall to the back burner. Well, now that I’m working again and things with our house and personal lives have somewhat settled, I’m finally getting back into it. And man, did I realize today how much I missed it! Dion surprised me by taking me to Denny’s for breakfast after a quick trip to Lowes (yep, there’s that house stuff creeping back into the picture). Well, Jo-Ann’s is right in the same parking lot as Denny’s, so we went there since I started commiting myself to making more costumes. Now, I havent been in that store for years. I remember it like the back of my hand, but ya gotta figure after all the times I walked in there and didn’t find that awesome scifi looking fabric I was looking for, this time would be no different, especially after my absence. Boy was I wrong! After only 10 minutes in the store, I came across THE PERFECT fabric I was looking for! It was very similar to a sample I ordered from online, but was better in fact and cheaper too!! I snagged it right away and even bought an extra yard of the stuff just incase I mess up, which I tend to do LOL. So the price was $24 total. Not bad! hee hee, but it gets better! When we were at the checkout, I swear I wasn’t paying attention as Dion pulled out his wallet to pay for it. I must have been looking at the candy bars or something, cause when we turned to leave, he told me that the girl at the register had given me some discount for being an online member or something and I got 40% off the fabric!!! So I got 4 yards of this awesomely perfect stretch velvet fabric for only 14 bucks!!!! Squee!!! I feel like costuming is welcoming me back with open arms! LOL I can’t wait to get the rest of the pieces for this outfit. Unfortunately, it’s a secret as of right now, so I can’t divulge too much more, but I couldn’t be happier right now. Me and a bunch of friends are part of a costuming group, which we hope to debut sometime next year as most of us have a lot of other things we’re working on too. But at the rate I’m going, I might be finished at the end of this year. yay!
As for other costumes, I’ll make a seperate post as to what’s on my wish list. I’ve cut it down significantly which I’m really happy about. Some costumes that I originally wanted to do are really no longer thrilling to me, so I”m glad I didn’t bother with them at the time cause I’m sure I wouldn’t end up wearing them too often anyways. The next convention I’m going to is Shoreleave the first weekend in August. I was going to try to get my Tok’Ra Anise costume done for that, but summer just wooshed by and I dont want to rush it at this point. I have the fabric and found a great wig, but there’s a few accessories that I’ll want to be nitpicky about, so I’m going to finish it for Farpoint instead.
